IC:

Character name: Jan Krieger
Fandom:
Sakana (webcomic)
Timeline: Chapter 9, just when Jan and Shigeru are on their way to visit the apartment of Jiro/Taro/Taisei. Obviously they won’t make it to their destination.
Age: 22

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: He’s a normal human! Unless his many freckles are holding some secret magical powers. He seems to be a pretty fast and eager learner though, seeing as he had managed to find a job in Japan despite not knowing Japanese.

How would they use their abilities?: He’ll probably try his best to find good work and possibly seek out some unique experiences since that’s what his parents would do.

Appearance:
5'9", German, reddish-brown hair, green eyes, slim build, pale and covered in freckles.

His hair is pretty messy looking and kind of sticks out all over the place. It still looks good though... It's a good messy.

He is literally covered in freckles from his face to his arms to his legs. They're also very visible since he has a light complexion. He's got big, dark eyebrows and a medium-sized nose with a strong bridge.

As for his body type, he's pretty slim but not overly skinny at all. He has a bit of muscle but not much (unless you're talking about the Buffkanas AU where everyone is ripped).

Normally Jan wears some sort of tshirt with random German words/sayings on them (Toll, Hast Du Mut?, etc). In the comic he's been seen wearing work clothing consisting of pants, a black button shirt and a white apron. For casual wear he has a tshirt, short and socks with sandals (very fashion).

Background/Personality:
He was born and raised in Germany and lived with his father, step-mother, and younger step-brother. He had a pretty normal childhood with nothing too out of the ordinary. He was supposed to go to America for a work exchange program, but SOMEHOW he actually was sent to Japan. Which is... Very different. Jan is fluent in English, but that didn't help at all since he was in the wrong country.

Luckily he managed to get a job at the Sakana's Sushi stall in the outer market. He started rooming with his coworker Shigeru who taught him all of the words on the sushi menu ("That's all he needs right?"). Despite his lack of knowledge he still tries his best and is very enthusiastic. However he can start to panic if things things are going badly and looks to Shigeru for help.

Jan's parents are actually thrilled about this surprising turn of events because they are ALL ABOUT new experiences! Jan wasn't totally stoked at the beginning but he's getting there.

In the comic Jan's broken Japanese was portrayed with some actual words and then others broken with symbols that made them near impossible to understand, even for the reader. But with languages Jan can speak, he uses a lot of surfer dude lingo and says things like "rad," and "that was totally sick nasty," which still might be strange slang to the other characters, even with everyone able to understand each other. He also tends to extend some words (i.e. "sweeeeeeeeet").

In the comic: Jan first appears when Taro visits the stall in the outer market to find his uncle and get permission to leave work early. Taro is greeted by an enthusiastic Jan who thinks he's a costumer. When Taro tries to tell Jan he's Ren's nephew Jan thinks he's saying "menu" and tries to show him the specials. Taro grows impatient and yells for Shigeru, (working in the back), which makes Jan start to panic. Once Shigeru comes out things go better and eventually Taro teaches Jan how to say his name.

The next we see Jan is just after we're taking our characters for the RP! He and Shigeru visit Jiro, Taro, and Taisei in their apartment and Shigeru goes off with Taro, leaving Jan with the other two. At first it's very awkward for everyone, with Taisei crying off his hangover and Jiro and Jan trying to understand each other. Eventually movies are brought out and Jan reveals he knows one of the American movies. He and Taisei realize they both know English and start to talk, leaving Jiro to be confused.

Now the language barrier won't even be a problem so things will go much more smoothly for Jan.

Have you read up on how the game works?: The Guide plug in is called Flaming Ferret and you get money by doing jobs, missions or stealing if you have to.

1st person sample:
[The camera switches on, the first thing seen is a very freckly nose. Jan moves back until his whole head is visible. He looks surprised and confused.]

Wow dudes. Like... I thought shit was weird when I accidentally got sent to Japan. But now I'm on this big space ship? I don't know if that's totally rad or messed up. Maaaaybe both.

[He knits his brow and pauses a moment]

Ok, ok. So like, is anyone I know here? Hit a bro up if you are because, wooooooah man, I'm so lost. I mean I can understand everyone, which is totally great, but now there's all these aliens and people with powers... I'm tryin' to stay pretty chill but a guy can only handle so much change in a short time.

[Some silence]

Yeah, uuuh, like I said, send me message if you know me and we can figure out this business together!

[Another close of of Jan's face as he moves in to turn the video off. The stream ends.]

3rd person sample:

Was everyone really gone? Jan hoped not. He wouldn't believe that out of the whole human race, he was the only dude left. Although it would, (in some weird way), make sense, after the whole America/Japan mix up. At least before it was possible for him to go home... Now home was detroyed, along with the rest of Earth. He tried to switch to some positive thinking. His thoughts turned to his parents. It was pretty rad that he was living the dream his parents always had--exploring new places, experiencing new things.... He'd just have to take their advice and apply it to this new location, like he had in Japan!

Still, he missed his family.... and Shigeru. That guy had really been there for him back in Japan and they really were becoming good bros. He'd be a good guy to have around in a place like this. He had even met that Taro guy who seemed to be pretty cool. Just when he was making some friends...

On the bright side, he could at least understand everyone now. No more confused half-conversations for this guy! These ear things were pretty sweet, but he tried not to think about the fact that it was a living fish alien feeding on his brain wave juices or whatever.

Jan sat on his bed, alone in the room--apparently his mysterious roommates weren't around. They were probably out working or on a mission. He figured he should take a better look through the Guide and maybe get started on finding a job himself. So much for the money he had saved up... But if everyone else could do it, he good too. Determined to make the best of his situation, Jan grabbed his Guide and headed out of his new room.

Also here's a sample RP some of us did
(it even takes place on the ship for the sake of language convenience).

Questions?: None that I can think of! I will say that this is my first multi-fandom RP so I'm hoping everything goes smoothly.

Did you put your characters name and fandom in the subject: Yup!
